Around 25,000 residences in southeastern Queensland found themselves experiencing outages on the start of the week after powerful weather events swept through the state, producing wind gusts topping 109km/h.

Massive Hailstones and Extensive Destruction

Homeowners observed substantial frozen pellets reaching sizes of 7 centimeters in certain regions. Weather authorities announced that different parts across the state had been hit with large hailstones.

Emergency crews were attempting to repair energy supply throughout the impacted areas, with approximately seventy teams deployed to manage the numerous electricity disruptions.

Southern State's Climate Difficulties

At the same time, approximately 1,000 energy customers in the southern state also experienced energy failures after the metropolitan area saw its wettest day in over 500 days.

Emergency response teams handled over five hundred calls for help across the area, mostly for structural issues but also for collapsed vegetation and flooding.

  • Wyndham - nearly 180 emergency requests

At the height on yesterday, over 28,000 energy customers in Victoria were without power.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were predicted to continue along significant areas of eastern Queensland this coming days as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coast.

Tomorrow was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent severe weather risk anticipated across different parts of both states.

Health Warning

Public health experts alerted that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the state's northern country region, particularly given the ongoing climate situation.
